Prepare yourself with the skills needed to be a success!
Girl Scout adult trainings provide leadership teams and other adult volunteers the knowledge and skills necessary for working with girls of all age levels. The courses are designed to enrich both girl and adult experiences.
Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee is pleased to offer Outdoor Skills and First Aid/CPR training free of charge to one adult in every troop each Girl Scout year. To redeem your free training, please register for the training in CouncilAlignMENT and then email Volunteer Resources at volunteerresources@gsmidtn.org with the date of your training.
Required Trainings
All Girl Scout troop leaders and co-leaders are required to complete our Youth Protection training, New Leader training, and Funding the Fun training. These trainings are offered online through our training platform. At least 1 troop leader or responsible adult must also complete our First Aid/CPR Part 1 & 2 training. First Aid/CPR Part 1 is completed online and Part 2 is completed in person.
If you are planning on reserving a GSMIDTN property or taking your Girl Scout troop on an overnight camping trip, there are other trainings you must complete.
- Camp Ready Training is an online required training for any volunteer, parent, or staff member that plans to utilize camp properties or other outdoor locations for any amount of time. If your troop is reserving a property for Day-Use Only, no other Camping Skills training will be needed.
- If you are taking your troop camping in a cabin with or without a fully equipped kitchen, you will need to complete the in person Outdoor Skills training in addition to Camp Ready and the other required trainings.
More information on required trainings can be found here.
Online Trainings
The required Youth Protection, New Leader, and Funding the Fun trainings can all be found on our training platform. All new troop leaders receive an email invitation for the platform after their registration is complete. As of January 2024, a variety of free online training opportunities are available to GSMIDTN leaders and co-leaders! Outdoor Skills
Camping Skills training is now Outdoor Skills!
We have revamped our camping skills requirements and curriculum for troop camping! Outdoor Skills is a more focused, shorter training than combined Camping Skills 1 and 2, and is required for reserving a unit or an overnight reservation at a GSMIDTN property. You’ll learn the basics of fire-building, three ways to cook outdoors, knife safety and more!

- Cancellation Policy
Trainings, like all GSMIDTN programs and events, operate on a first-come, first-served basis. By registering for a training, you have reserved your spot; we use registration numbers to purchase supplies and schedule trainers for each session. As such, we require that cancellation or rescheduling of trainings be received no later than 3 weeks prior to the training to be guaranteed a refund or transfer of monies paid. While we can help you to reschedule a training, we ask that you do so prior to three weeks before it is scheduled. Unpaid registrations are not considered notice of cancellation and full payment is expected.
If you used your troop’s Free Training Credit to pay for a training, please note GSMIDTN’s policy: For First Aid/CPR Skills Test, and Outdoor Skills, if a volunteer is using their free training credit and cancels and/or reschedules within 3 weeks of the training they risk losing that free training credit for the year. Exceptions will be made at GSMIDTN’s discretion for illness and family emergencies.
If a training is cancelled by GSMIDTN for any reason, a refund will be issued. Volunteer Resources will contact you if the training is postponed, rescheduled, or cancelled due to inclement weather. Please use your best judgement when traveling. Full payment is required unless written cancellation is received 3 weeks prior to an event. Refunds for unexpected sickness or family emergencies will be considered upon request.
To request a refund, submit the request with explanation in writing.
