National STEAM Day!

Let’s get innovating!

It’s time to get your hands dirty and bring out you inner mad scientist. We’ll make slime, build robots out of Legos, and learn about circuits! We have everything you need to bring out you inner innovator (aka awesomeness).

All this can be brought to you at any Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee property, or we can travel to your troop meeting. This is your chance to be the mad scientist, find your inner Picasso, and construct the tallest tower.

Girl Innovator Opportunities

  • Bristle Bots

What is a robot anyway? We will explore new definitions of what makes a robot, brainstorm what our dream robot is capable of, and build a Bristle Bot as we try to figure out the answer to what makes some of our electronic devices robots. This activity meets the requirements for Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Designing Robots badges.

    Grade Level: Cadette, Senior, Ambassador
    Min: 8 | Max: 16
    Duration: 1 hour
    Fee: $10 per girl

  • Car Design

Curious about cars or just need help earning a Mechanical Engineering badge? This activity is for you! We will build and decorate our own boxcars, then race them on different surfaces to see how far and fast they go. For Juniors and up we will even try to make them air powered! This activity meets the requirements for the Daisy Model Car, Brownie Race Car, and Junior Balloon Car Design Challenge badges.

Grade Level: Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Senior, Ambassador
    Min:
     8 | Max: 16
    Duration: 1 hour
    Fee: $7 per girl

  • Lego Robotics

Enjoy building things out of Lego bricks? Ever wish those things could move or make sounds? We have robotic Lego kits that let you create lions that stand up and roar, alligators that snap their jaws shut when they sense movement, and self-propelled tops. This activity can be a short one hour program or extended to be able to make multiple creatures. Lego Robotics can also help girls work towards the Brownie Programming Robots and Designing Robots badges, and Junior Designing Robots badge.

Grade Level: Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Senior, Ambassador
    Min: 8 | Max: 16
    Duration: 1 hour
    Fee: $10 per girl

  • Marble Maze

Team up and see if you can make the worlds slowest maze for a marble to run through using the materials provided. We’ll talk about techniques to slow down the marble and have fun competing and comparing ideas in this fun event. This activity can also help Brownies work towards the Leap Bot Design Challenge badge by using the same principles.

Grade Level: Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Senior, Ambassador
    Min: 8 | Max: 40
    Duration: 1 hour
    Fee: $7 per girl

  • Marshmallow Shooter

What do friction, pressure, and design have to do with making your marshmallow shoot the farthest? Design, redesign, and decorate your very own marshmallow shooter in this fun activity.

Grade Level: Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Senior, Ambassador
    Min: 8 | Max: 15
    Duration: 1 hour
    Fee: $8 per girl
