Tomorrow is National STEAM Day, a day devoted to encouraging kids to pursue their interests in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.

How did this day come about?
National STEAM Day was created by MGA Entertainment, a large American manufacturing company and creator of Netflix’s Project MC2. The Netflix series features four girls part of a secret spy organization called NOV8 (pronounced “innovate”), making November 8 the perfect day to celebrate all things STEAM!

Why celebrate STEAM?
It’s no secret today that STEAM careers are growing faster than many other occupations.1 At Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee, we’re making sure our programming keeps up with this growth, by offering our girls more STEAM focused opportunities than ever before.

And, it’s fun! So far, our girls have made their own slime, learned how to code and built Lego creatures that move and make sounds.

How can I celebrate?
Find your favorite topic, whether it’s robotics, art, science or math, and talk about it with a friend. Discuss why you like this topic and what activities you’ve tried that you enjoyed.

Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee is offering many upcoming programs that you can be a part of. Simply take your pick, register and show up! We’ll take it from there.

Programs include:

Drop-In STEAM Days
Fun, 1-2 hour programs throughout the year that feature hands-on activities. Themes include Hour of Code, Snowman Science and Gramophones.

Think Like a Programmer Journey
Technology is everywhere! Explore the world of robotics as you work towards the new Think Like a Programmer Journey.

Think Like an Engineer Journey
Take “design thinking to a whole new level as you participate in hands-in experiments and activities.

Do these programs catch your interest? To participate, reach out to our Program Department at programdept@gsmidtn.org.

Enjoy this STEAM Day and take it as another day to explore, discover and innovate the Girl Scout way!
