Science & Technology

Another crucial part of being a leader today and tomorrow is recognizing the important role that science and technology plays in our society. Girl Scouts exposes girls to relevant and innovative programming that can lead them to discovery.  Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee offers career clinics that show girls professions that are in high demand and can lead to long-term success.  There are also opportunities to engage with partnering organizations that foster imagination and teach the fundamentals of both science and technology both indoors and out. For more information, please contact the program department.

Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee would like to thank Dell for selecting us as a recipient for the Dell YouthConnect program.  Their generous support has provided us with the Dell Mobile E-Lab for Girls (MEG Lab).

The Dell MEG Lab is a hands-on, computer based lab program offering learning and online research opportunities.  The goal of the Dell MEG Lab is to expose girls to technology, increase their skills, and inform them of career paths related to technology.  The Dell MEG Lab is available to girls during programs and events such as Girl University, The Best PJ Party Ever, Internet Patch Prep and more!

In February, Girl Scouts visited Camp Sycamore Hills for a photography and computer session alongside our beloved horses. The girls uploaded their horse photos to in our mobile Dell Mobile E-Lab for Girls and created their own digital photo albums.

Beginning in 2002, Dell provided initial funding and equipment for the Dell MEG Lab and has helped us sustain this important program.  Dell’s support has enabled us to provide programming to more than 5,000 girls through programs such as Internet Safety, Digi-Kids (computer basics and word processing) and Digital Scrap Booking and girls have even used the lab to search for college scholarships and financial aid opportunities.  The Dell MEG Lab also supports our programming in the Arts, Healthy Living, Leadership, Financial Literacy and Science and Technology. Thanks to the Dell YouthConnect program, in 2011 Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee received three laptops and two projectors for the Dell MEG Lab and grant funding which will ensure great technology experiences for girls for years to come.
