Journey to Leadership

These items are more than just decoration for a sash or vest, but a badge of honor to mark significant milestones on the Girl Scout journey to leadership.  Be sure to display your patches, badges and awards correctly by checking out our uniform diagrams.

Badges

The Girl Scout experience can be marked by a series of smaller awards earned through badge work.  Girls must complete a series of activities and programs to earn badges.  There are as many opportunities to earn badges depending on the path a troop chooses to follow.  View the GSUSA insignia list to learn more about what badges are available for each age group.  Also refer to the leader and girl handbooks and activity guides.  View our uniform diagrams to make sure you’re uniform looks great!

Patches

In addition to earning badges, girls can also receive patches for participating in fun activities that are provided by the Girl Scout Council and other partnering organizations.  The Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee offers hundreds of patches to choose from focusing on today’s relevant topics to help girls engage in the world around them. Girls also have an opportunity to not only strengthen their leadership but their faith as well.  If girls or their troop chooses, girls can earn religious awards that are offered by the many denominations that support Girl Scouting.

Awards

The Girl Scout Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards are Girl Scouting’s highest honors not just given out for random acts of kindness but are earned through a culmination of service projects, reports and leadership activities.  The Gold Award is the pinnacle achievement for community service and leadership.  Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors spend as much as a year preparing for and working towards the stringent milestones the Gold Award requires.  The Girl Scout Silver and Bronze awards are the highest honors earned by Girl Scout Cadettes and Juniors respectively and require similar community service and leadership projects.  For more information on earning the Girl Scout Gold, Silver or Bronze Award, how you can help girls earn their awards or to connect with other award alumni, contact the program department for more information.  View the new awards requirements and get started on your path to success!

News About Awards

Bronze, Silver and Gold Award requirements will have the Girl Scout Journey program as a pre-requisite. These updated requirements can be found at http://www.girlscouts.org. Any girl/troop using the “old” guidelines, available at http://www.gsmidtn.org, must have project and final paperwork completed by September 30, 2011.  Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee has prepared a Bronze, Silver and Gold Award overview and FAQ.  Bronze and Silver awards will be approved at the troop level. The Gold Award will continue with a council pre-approval and final approval process.
